Helicopter Emergency Medical Service
Introduction
Those in the HEMS are certified pilots. These are people who attend to calls in inaccessible areas that regular emergency responders cannot reach, such as mountains, and locations far away from the city. We have advanced equipment ready to be handed out to those who complete their HEMS training within the NHS, therefore it is incredibly important that we take our time and handle the equipment in a careful and considerate manner. When flying a helicopter, you must take extreme care to ensure that you do not pose any danger to the people on the ground and other aircrafts in the surrounding airspace. When landing you must ensure that you land in the safest place possible for yourself and others such places include: Helipads, Rooftops, Grass Verges, Open Areas/Fields, Beaches and Mountains.
